Can an employer be sued or brought to justice for not paying overtime for an hourly wage?

I had a security guard job before, my employer didn't always pay me overtime if I went over 40 hours. He also did other things that weren't right and threatened to fire me if I would mention it. Anway, I would like to know if it is possible to bring him to court, will it be worth it? I'm thinking if I could bring him to court with the help of some agency that would punish him criminally. Then bring him to a civil court, even if I don't win it may force him to settle to end the trial. What do you think?
