Should rape and murder in prison be criminally tried the same as on the outside?

I mean, let's be honest here, the perpetrator himself is most likely serving a life sentence and the victim wasn't a contributing member of society to begin with? Who loses out at the end of the day if these criminals are raped or murdered? If anything, the guards turning a blind eye to this is a good thing as it deters prospective criminals. If you don't want to get raped or murdered, don't do the crime.
