What happens if i stop payment on a check i gave the car dealer, because i was not satisfied?

I bought a car and I gave a deposit of 7000, what could happen to me if anything criminally if I stop the check. I just found out that my job is going to lay me off and I will not be able to afford this Carr. I really don't car now if the recesses it I just want to know if this is criminal.
